Diversity, Equity, Inclusion

It is my priority to provide a myriad of resources from various perspectives on social issues and topics. With the variety in resources, I teach students to come at each one with an open mind and critical questions. Students are encouraged to explore, experiment (experiential learning), and think deeply about issues of social justice with their peers. Students work with past and present historical and local issues impacting their lives. Students research topics in social justice in connection to English Language Arts, work in small groups, and have thoughtful class discussions.

When creating activities and instruction for lessons every day, I follow the Pennsylvania State Standards, as well as the Learning for Justice Standards. With the paired standards, students are challenged to develop academic skills through a deeply critical lens. In learning through challenges, students are provided the opportunity to grow their perspectives and understand themselves and their peers better. Learning how to communicate with people who have different perspectives, beliefs, practices, and identities is a critical life skill that is needed for adult life in collaborating in any career.
